The gastrointestinal tract is one of the most sensitive and at the same time most major organs of the horse. A healthy digestive system sees to it that the ingestion of nutrients proceeds smoothly while reducing the risk of colic. This is achieved through proper ration management, in other words by feeding the horse sufficient amounts of roughage (crude fiber) and nutritional elements that stimulate the way the health promoting micro-organisms operate inside the large intestine. Florastimul (a prebiotic) is a nutrient that can only be used by benign bacteria and which serves to stimulate their growth and development. Moreover, Florastimul prevents adhesion to the intestinal wall as well as foiling the continued growth of pathogenic bacteria. As such, Florastimul supports a healthy intestinal flora, making the horse less susceptible to gastrointestinal upsets.
Omega 3-fatty acids not only benefit man, since they are just as beneficial for horses, offering a propitious effect on their health and condition. In addition to a glossy coat, omega 3-fatty acids offer a wide number of healthful effects. Omega 3-fatty acids are immunity stimulants; serve as inflammation inhibitors; prevent the blood from clotting while prompting improved blood circulation and act as a defense against a host of allergies. This unique fatty acid composition supports the general condition of the horse.
The right calcium/phosphorus ratio is crucial for the development
of the bones. Calcium deficiency cannot be established through blood analysis, as the calcium level in the blood gives no indication of the calcium in the body (80% of the calcium is stored in the skeleton). In case of calcium shortage, calcium is taken from the bones, which results in porous bones, rickets and osteoporosis. Unduly high levels of calcium have an adverse impact on the availability of phosphorus, magnesium, zinc and manganese. In case of phosphorus deficiency, the bones become brittle and the horse’s performance suffers. In case of too high levels of phosphorus, the small intestine will focus on absorbing the phosphorus, to the detriment of calcium, magnesium, zinc and manganese.
So it is essential to have an optimal calcium/phosphorus ratio.
Opti-Growth guarantees healthy bone development and optimal availability of copper, zinc and manganese for the joints and bones.
