Since joining the Cavalor Team, National Hunt Jockey, Donagh Meyler has had an incredible season so far with more than 20 Winners in Ireland and the UK.
The 19 year old from Co Kilkenny, is a 7lb claimer based in Co Meath.
He first started riding when he was 8 years old, then progressed to hunting, showjumping and some pony club. When he was 14 years old he started with the racehorses at Mr Eoin Doyle’s at the weekends and on school holidays. Since then he has ridden in many races for Mr Doyle and was even lucky enough to have had a winner for him this season.
Donagh then went to Mr Jim Bolgers for a whole summer where he learnt a lot, and decided it was time to pursue a career as a jump jockey.
Meyer moved up to Mr Noel Meade in Co Meath. He stayed there for a season, riding for some great owners such as JP Mcmanus & Gigginstown House Stud.
He is now based with Mr Tony Martin for the last year, getting great opportunities. He rode his first winner as a conditional for Mr JP Mcmanus and hasn’t looked back since!
So far this season he has been given the ride for some big owners in big races such as Gigginstown House Stud in the Kerry National and Mr JP McManus in big handicap races. He also has his flat licence as his weight is good and he got to ride for his boss Tony Martin in the Irish Cesarewitch in the Curragh.
